What is the best van for a campervan conversion?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer - the best van depends on how you intend to use it. Popular base vehicles for premium conversions include VW Transporter, Ford Transit Custom Mercedes Sprinter, VW Crafter and Citroen Relay, chosen for their space, reliability and adaptability.

We’re always happy to advise on the ideal base van for your needs and help source one if required.

How much does a quality campervan conversion cost in the UK?

Costs vary according to specification, materials and bespoke features. As a guide:

- High-quality, mid-range conversions: £12,000–£30,000
- Fully bespoke, premium builds: £30,000–£50,000+

We work with you to design a build that fits your budget while maintaining the quality, durability and finish you expect in a luxury conversion. Transparent, detailed quotes are provided before work begins.

Should I choose a professional conversion or DIY?

A DIY build can be rewarding, but a quality campervan conversion involves specialist skills — from advanced electrics and certified gas installations to precision joinery and practical layout design. Our team brings professional experience and craftsmanship to ensure your conversion is safe, functional and beautifully finished.

How does the electrical system work in a luxury campervan?

We tailor electrical systems to suit your lifestyle, travel patterns and power needs. A premium setup typically includes:

- High-capacity lithium leisure batteries

- Smart charging systems· Both 12V and 230V power with inverter supply

This ensures reliable off-grid performance for appliances, lighting and tech you use most.

How is a campervan insulated for year-round UK use?

Proper insulation is essential for comfort in the UK’s variable climate. Our builds use multi-layer insulation and careful detailing to:· Maintain warmth in winter and coolness in summer· Minimise condensation and damp· Improve acoustic comfortGood insulation makes a real difference to how a luxury campervan feels on the road.

What is the best layout for a campervan?

Each layout we design is often unique to the client. Popular features include:

- Fixed beds with integrated storage
- Fully equipped kitchens· Lounge spaces with premium finishes
- Optional indoor shower and toilet areas

We start with how you want to live and travel, then build a design that optimises space, flow and practicality.

Do I need a toilet or shower?

This depends on your travel habits. We offer a range of solutions:

- High-end cassette or composting toilets
- Indoor wet rooms
- Compact showers
- External shower options

We’ll help you choose the right setup based on how and where you plan to travel.

Can a converted campervan be insured and registered in the UK?

Yes - provided the conversion meets recognised standards and documentation requirements. At VanGoff Campers, we build with compliance in mind and can advise on insurance and reclassification to motor caravan status where appropriate.

How long does a bespoke campervan conversion take?

Timelines depend on the complexity of the build and bespoke features selected.

- Modular or partial builds: typically 3–5 weeks
- Fully bespoke luxury conversions: typically 8–12 weeks

We agree realistic timelines with you up front and provide regular updates throughout the build process.

Is van life worth the investment?
